October 6 had an expected high of 55 degrees according to CBS news, so it would be a shocker to hear the complaints from fellow teammates of the heat brought by the direct heat.
The opposite would be said about senior varsity runner Josh Campos who commented saying that he enjoyed the weather and felt it was pretty cool at times and not too windy.
Campos ran his fastest time at the home course by an extra five seconds finishing with a time of 15:51. “It was a good race overall, for both team and individual, Campos said.
Coach Mike Stokes’ plan consisted of getting runners senior Michael Thill and Campos to help the team out and keep them going. Stokes hoped for the majority of the team within the top 15. Meanwhile Campos set a personal goal hoping for 3rd or 4th.
The race started at 4:30 with the freshmen/sophomore team starting then finishing around 5:15, when the varsity teams started. With the postponing of the Fremd meet earlier in the year, Prospect held this meet with Fremd and Loyola.
“We have always scheduled Loyola later in the year because we are not in the same conference but we know we will get a good race out of it.”
Prospect went out 28-29 with a fight but lost to the literal 1-2 punch of Loyola’s top runners. “We tried our best and we improved as a team there is nothing more I want as a coach,” Stokes said.
“If you’re going to lose it is best to lose to really good time,” commented Stokes. Campos also commented by joking “We will see them at state that is what we have to focus on. “You try to get out of conference then you go hard through sectionals to the real destination, state.”
“We have to look at things from bigger perspective; a bigger picture,” said Campos. “I tell them we just have to put our helmets and go to work,” Stokes said.
Overall the team took on the challenge that is Loyola and gave it their all, they did well in improving as a team and trying their best, now state is all that is on their minds.
