During the boys cross country conference meet on Saturday, senior Albert Ciolek looked up during the race and saw that senior Chris Spudic ahead of the pack running all by himself.
“I was surprised he was so far ahead, but it was good,” Ciolek said.
Spudic didn’t let up; he finished the race in first with a time of 15:20, becoming just the third runner in Prospect history to place first at conference.
Ciolek also had great success and finished the race at 15:44, coming in fifth and achieving his goal of finishing in the top five.
Even though Prospect was able to place runners in first and fifth they finished the race in second place, four points behind rival Palatine.
“We could have definitely came in first,” Ciolek said. “We could have ran better together.”
Since they weren’t able to beat Palatine in the conference meet they are looking forward to racing against them at sectionals, which will be held on the 31st.
To be dominate upcoming races, such as sectionals, the team is “decreasing their mileage during training to conserve their energy.”
“All the hard work is behind us,” Ciolek said. “Now it’s just staying in shape by taking care of our bodies.”
