Massive freshman class welcomed with open arms

Massive freshman class welcomed with open arms

Last year, the incoming freshman class was one of the biggest yet; over 550 students were added to Prospect High School.
However, that number would be quickly toppled, with a whopping 602 freshman coming in from local schools including Lincoln Middle School, South Middle School and Holmes Junior High.
Associate Principal Scott McDermott says the steady rise in incoming students is because more and more families are moving to suburban areas due to the “great bargain” of sending their kids to schools like Prospect.
Incoming freshman Alexa Petricca is looking forward to having such a large class.
“I think as a class, we will bring Prospect High School closer as a community,” Petricca said. “[Because of this large class,] there are even more people to be there for you in times of need, to support each other, and to guide you in the right direction.”
While some may see the rapidly growing amount of students as a setback for Prospect, making class sizes larger and creating a need for more lockers, McDermott is excited to welcome so many students to the school.
“[With a large class,] you get more bright young minds, and you get more opportunities to learn about new, innovative things that could possibly be going on in classes and extracurriculars,” McDermott said. “The more the merrier!”
