On Wednesday, there will be the Homecoming Bonfire from six to nine p.m.
Student Council advisor Lyn Scolaro said there will be a barbecue for just the seniors from six p.m. to seven p.m., and afterwards it will be open for the whole school.
“We’ll have the bonfire around 7:15 p.m. and it’s a video D.J. so it’s something a little different other than just music,” Scolaro said. “Kids can dance, hang out with their friends, and have the opportunity to sleep in a little bit on Thursday morning.”
For senior Emily Bono, the bonfire is a good way for the school to come together. Bono said the seniors are doing an activity where they put their handprints on a banner to unify the class.
“It’s an opportunity to come together as a community,” Bono said. “[The bonfire] is just a good event for the whole school.”
Sophomore Sydney Kitzmiller agrees with Bono. She said Prospect’s been good at keeping people connected and harmonious.
“[The bonfire] is an event for the whole school, it’s a [good] way to connect and get involved.” Kitzmiller said. “[Prospect’s] doing a pretty good job at [hosting events]. You can never have too many.”
Bono thinks the bonfire is a cool way to introduce the lower classmen into Prospect’s culture and traditions.
“It’s cool for the freshmen who have never gotten to be part of something like [this],” Bono said. “[Plus], it’s before Homecoming, so they have an idea of what [Homecoming] is like.”
Scolaro said the bonfire will be a good time for kids to just hang out with friends, enjoy some entertainment, for example, games and the video D.J.
“I know we have a dance on Saturday night and it’s a little bit more formal,” Scolaro said. “But [the bonfire is good because you] can just come hang out with your friends [and] take a little bit of me-time outside of school. [The bonfire] is not dressy [and you] don’t have to be worried about the date.”
But most importantly, Scolaro said the bonfire is just to show kids the reason we put on such a show for Homecoming, and the reason Homecoming is such an important event.
“It’s really important [to have the bonfire] because Homecoming is about coming home,” Scolaro said. “Home is where everyone lives, and where everyone feels comfortable and safe. That’s what [the bonfire represents].”
