The Prospect varsity boys’ track and field team continued their string of dominance in the MSL East division.
The Knights won the MSL East for the ninth consecutive year on Apr. 17 when Prospect hosted the five east teams.
Head coach Jay Renaud believes that while the Knights have dominated the division in recent years, that winning the MSL East is no small feat.
“We take pride in winning the East,” Renaud said. “We were just able to get the job done, so I think it is a sign of a good program where you keep having success no matter what kids are on the team.”
The Knights took home first place in the 4×200 relay, while the other relays had top three places as well.
Senior Nate Cozine also had a solid day at the track, winning the 800-meter relay with a time of 2:04.12. Junior Michael Shafis jumped 6’2 in the high jump.
Prospect’s throwing squad was led by senior Tommy Morton in discus.
The Knights next big push for the postseason begins in three weeks when they will compete in the Mid Suburban League tournament.
Even with tough competition, Renaud is confident that his team can place in the top-three at the event.
“We were third at the indoor meet,” Renaud said. “We would like to be third or better at the outdoor meet.”
With most of the teams scoring coming from underclassmen, Renaud thinks that this provides a big advantage that they are not only getting opportunities now, but for next season as well.
“A lot of teams are senior heavy,” Renaud said. “We’re still excited for this year, but we are always looking ahead a year or two and we are excited about that too, but we have to get through this year first.”
