Feeling fake boobs for lumps is something sophomore Lucy Hewitt didn’t think she would be excited about, nor thought she would do in high school; however, on December 3, the Amita Health group brought in prosthetics for a mammogram booth. The booth was one of twenty that came to Prospect for the first annual Healthapalooza.

Wellness consultant Christine Kolzow believes that this kind of event is important for helping students become more aware of health issues. Just testing your blood pressure, according to Kolow, can help detect a warning sign for many chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and low heart efficiency. If a doctor knows someone’s blood pressure is at an unhealthy level, they can recommend a tailored diet and exercise routine to help prevent said diseases.
Chiropractors and physical therapy professionals were also included in the line up, as many students go to a chiropractor as a way to relieve stress.
Other displays included the Harbour, a homeless youth shelter and This Bar Saves Lives, a non-profit that sells granola bars and donates nutrition packets to children in need.
The Lutheran Church Charity had, by far, the most popular group, with therapy dogs. Brutus, a golden retriever service dog. The dogs visit many different settings, often going somewhere new everyday.
Handlers say that the look on people’s faces, when the dogs show up, is like real happiness.
