Volley for the Cure, the girls’ volleyball game turned breast cancer fundraiser, is being held again on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The girls will face off against Buffalo Grove here at Prospect, with the junior varsity game starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity at 6 p.m.
However, the focus isn’t on the MSL East conference game, but on the battle against breast cancer. Proceeds for the game directly benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which raises money to support breast cancer research. Last year, the volleyball teams collectively raised $6,000 for the foundation, and this year they’re aiming to make $500 more this year. And they’re already well on their way.
The girls’ volleyball teams has already sold 650 out of the 750 T-shirts they have for sale and have received $2,000 in donations for their 50-50 prize raffle. T-shirts are still available for $10 each.
“It’s a fun way to bring the school together for a volleyball match,” junior volleyball player Mariel Sobey said. “And it’s for a good cause.”
