Although the coronation ceremony seemed like any other year, there were quite a few changes. Besides being on Monday, there were several mood swings from the crowd.

It started out with excited conversations from the whole crowd and then changed to respectful silence when Principal Kurt Laakso announced that one of the distinguished guests was deceased due to his service in Vietnam.

Then once again the mood swung to hoots and hollers as the King, Blake Heyde, and the Queen, Morgan Deihs were crowned.

“Oh gosh, I was really surprised [when I was crowned] and really nervous about the whole thing,” Deihs said. “I honestly didn’t think far enough ahead and almost forgot where to go.”

Heyde expressed very similar shock and moment of awe.

“I honestly didn’t think I was going to win, and then it was so overwhelming to have all of Prospect staring at me,” Heyde said.

As Heyde was walking back down the isle, he shook hands with Jeff Geldmyer, a fellow debate member, to show some respect for debate because that’s the club in which he was nominated for homecoming king.

Deihs and Heyde are also very excited for the coming week, agreeing that Student Council made a change for the better having coronation on Monday.

One good thing about this year’s court was that they bonded.

“We all really got along,” Deihs said, “because we all already knew each other from all the activities we are involved in.”
Heyde concurred with stories of jokes in the hallways, a trip to fellow king nominee Nick Haddad’s house to play video games during a break and handshakes and hugs following the ceremonies.
“The whole process has been a lot of fun,” Heyde said.
