Girls' golf ends historic season

By Miranda Holloway
Sports Editor
The girls’ golf team had a year for the record books after completing their most successful season in school history. The team’s season ended with a fourth place finish in the state competition, held at the Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth.
The girls shot a 666, finishing behind first place New Trier (627), Homewood- Flossmore (630), and Hindsdale Central (640).

Until this point the girls had been undefeated in both conference and sectional play.
“We finished right where we should have,” said head coach Jim Hamman.
Senior Rachel Lawless was the team’s best finish in 23rd place. She was followed closely by juniors Christine Garmoe and Allison Walsh, who both shot a 166. Freshman Noreen Caporusso shot a 176 and senior Emily Mick shot a 180 to round off the team’s top four finishers.
“We felt very confident,” Hamann said. “We won our conference … regional and sectional. We were in the featured group.”
As the featured group, they were one of the top four teams to watch in the meet. All four of the featured teams finished in the top four. After a long season of practicing and focus the finish felt like a much deserved reward.
“It feels good. I’m really proud that we were able to go that far,” Lawless said. “We, as a team, were really dedicated and made it fun.”
“The girls should be very proud of themselves,” Hamman said.
