On Tuesday, February 3, junior Liam Seymour delivered a speech to the Mount Prospect board meeting to raise awareness for cardiovascular disease.
Standing in front of the meeting, he admitted he initially was conflicted. “A little bit nervous, but once you’re up there, you’re speaking with passion,” Seymour said.
There’s a reason he has put so much time and effort into his cause. Seymour’s mother was diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, and the experience has shaped his passion. “We’ve been through a lot, and it really does affect a lot of people,” he said, “so it’s good to be up there and talk about it.”
For Liam, the motivation is spreading his message to as many people as he can.
It isn’t just a small part of Seymour’s life either. He hopes to pursue a career in biomedical engineering, where he will work with devices such as pacemakers to continue making a difference for people with cardiovascular disease.
