On Saturday, Dec. 5, Prospect hosted the first varsity Academic Bowl competition of the season.
The team won three games and lost two games. Notably, the team beat favorites William Fremd High School in a close game.
According to senior and second-year varsity member Dan Hindmand, winning against Fremd was a big accomplishment for the team because Fremd “are the best and [Prospect are] not so much the best.”
To prepare for competitions, team members meet after school on Thursdays to play Jeopardy!-style games and go over old Academic Bowl questions.
Hindmand believes the team will be able to improve and achieve more success after juniors who are new to the varsity team get more accustomed to the competitions.
At Saturday’s competition, the varsity team consisted of many new juniors; many varsity players were missing because they had other activities.
Hindmand was satisfied with the team’s overall performance but especially proud of the win over Fremd.
“We went 2-3, which is okay,” Hindmand said, “but we’re all happy we beat Fremd.”
