Theater department hosts tasty fundraiser

By Chris Kivlahan

Staff Writer

This month, the Prospect theater department is taking on one of its most ambitious projects ever: The Wedding Singer. According to director Jeremy Morton, the play has 50 plus actors, all with 80s costumes and an enormous set. In addition to the cost of all those, the rights to the musical itself are more expensive since it was released more recently.

To offset some of these costs, the theater department is hosting a fundraiser this Sunday, April 15 at Capannari Ice Cream in Mount Prospect from 2 to 5 p.m.

Morton says they chose this particular venue because they wanted to do something more fun than the traditional fast food club fundraiser. This is the first time they have done an ice cream fundraiser, and Morton felt it would be fitting due to the recent unseasonably warm weather.

“We’re hoping people come out,” Morton said.

Other than these fundraisers, the theater program is financed exclusively by ticket sales, so, according to Morton, the department should do a fundraiser like this every year “to keep the program alive.”
