There was a major surprise during the varsity bowling teams Jan. 22 match against the Fremd Vikings.
The Vikings, according to head coach Ashley Ruszczak, have been one of the best teams in the Mid Suburban League this season.
However, to the team and Ruszczak’s surprise, the Vikings came out cold against the Knights.
Fremd found a way to rebound and took seven out of the nine points away from the Knights, winning by a score of 2391-2369.
“Once they [Fremd] got the ball rolling, it was just a matter of time before they really got going and getting the mojo and using it to their advantage,” Ruszczak said.
While the performance of the Vikings impressed Ruszczak, the Knights also continued to show strives in development.
Senior Allison Buck threw a high game of 203 to lead the Knights.
Buck also led the team with a total score of 530, while senior Elise Heinze put up a 510 and junior Nina Tierney added 474 herself.
Ruszczak was also proud of the team score at the end of night, with the Knights having two 800-games as well as having a 740-game during the match.
As the season begins to wind down and postseason gets underway, Ruszczak believes the improvements the team needs to make can help them have success going forward.
“We need to stay behind the ball,” Ruszczak said. “If we do not stay behind the ball, these girls are going to lose a lot of their power. We also got to improve on converting on spares because they were our biggest enemy against Fremd.”
