As someone who has been a die-hard Harry Styles fan for years, I am ecstatic about his upcoming album, “Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally”. It is available for streaming in one week, on March 6. So, in honor of the upcoming album, I have selected my top five songs from his three albums (excluding One Direction) and decided to share why they are my favorite.
Honorable mention: Ever Since New York (Harry Styles 2017)
Maybe I am biased because New York is my favorite place ever, and I first started listening to this song because of that, but I like Styles’s habit of repeating lyrics in songs and I like how it’s done in this song probably the most out of all of his music.
Honorable mention: Canyon Moon (Fine Line 2019)
Canyon moon is a song about reminiscing about a place you used to go with someone. What I like about it is that it is done in a joyful way, with whistling and clapping in the background, and it is not presented in a mellow way, typical of songs about missing something.
5th Place: Treat People With Kindness (Fine Line 2019)
Music can really influence my mood and how I feel, and this song never fails to uplift me. I think it is a song that more people can benefit from listening to, because it has a really good message about kindness and feeling good.
4th Place: Little Freak (Harry’s House 2022)
The first thing I noticed about Little Freak when I first listened to it is that it is sung fully in the second person, which I feel like is pretty uncommon and is very obviously directed at somebody. It described all of the things that Styles has noticed about someone wants to say, but would never actually do it. The beat at the beginning is unusual and strong, which hooked me right away as well.
3rd Place: From the Dining Table (Harry Styles 2017)
From the Dining Table perfectly captures what it feels like to not be close with somebody in your life anymore. It is a song about missing somebody, but they don’t reciprocate that, and have already moved on.
2nd Place: Grapejuice (Harry’s House 2022)
I like that Grapejuice has a very upbeat tempo and a childish name, but the lyrics are actually very significant. The song is about drinking away your feelings after losing someone you thought was perfect for you, but trying to look on the bright side of the situation.
1st Place: Matilda (Harry’s House 2022)
Matilda has been my favorite song by Styles for as long as I can remember. I feel like the song can be interpreted many different ways, but to me it is about growing up and leaving, and letting go of all of the hard times from your past life. It’s sung from the perspective of Styles and not the person that the song is about, which provides a third person perspective on somebody’s rough upbringing and what it looked like from the outside.
