Last Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the girls’ tennis team had conference play. Or, they were supposed to. The weather made sure that the matches were postponed until Saturday at Buffalo Grove and Tuesday at Hersey. By that time, the rain had gone away.
“It wasn’t so much wet as it was freezing cold,” senior Colleen Brogni said.
The team placed third overall in conference, behind first place Barrington and second place Buffalo Grove, with strong performances all-around. Senior Anne Duggan placed fourth in the first singles, and sophomore Maggie Partridge placed second in second singles, losing to Barrington 1-6 in the first and second sets. The first doubles team of senior Eileen Deignan and junior Jackie Hetritch placed ninth, while the second doubles team of Brogni and Emily Schwartz placed forth.
The team looks forward to sectional play next Friday and Saturday at Lake Park where they will have to place in the top four in order to move on to state.
“Either way, we’re just glad we made it to sectionals,” Brogni said.
